Heroes has become the surprise of this season. The series premiered in the United States as the night’s most watched program among adults and attracted 14.3 million viewers. It had the highest rating for an NBC drama premiere in five years.
The show was created by Tim Kring and tells the story of a group of ordinary people with extraordinary abilities such as flight, telepathy and time travel. Although they thought they were just like everyone else, once they found out about their powers, the new heroes realized they had an important role in preventing catastrophes and saving mankind.
So far, the series has hooked viewers with its complicated plot lines and conflicted characters. It is certainly the hottest new show of the season and it has already added a new phrase to the pop culture dictionary: “Save the cheerleader. Save the world.”
The story starts when a total eclipse darkens the globe and a genetics professor (Sendhil Ramamurthy) discovers that there are people with super powers living among us. Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls) plays a young man who believes he can fly and tries to convince his brother (Adrian Pasdar, “Judging Amy”) of that.
Other heroes include an indestructible school cheerleader played by Hayden Panettiere (Ice Princess), a Las Vegas stripper (Ali Larter, “Final Destination”) who can make miracles with mirrors, a fugitive from justice played by Leonard Roberts (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) who can walk through walls, a young Japanese man (Masi Oka, “Scrubs”) that develops a way to stop time, a gifted artist played by Santiago Cabrera (Empire) who can paint the future and an LA cop (Greg Grunberg, “Alias”) who can hear people’s thoughts.
As the plot thickens, more characters will be added. The most recent news about the cast says that George Takei, a member of the original “Star Trek” series, has signed up to play the father of Hiro (Masi Oka).
Actor Masi Oka confessed he is thrilled to work with Takei. : “This is absolutely brilliant! I just hope I get to say, 'Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!'” |
